Spring Camp for Masters

To All,

A number of you have been asking about Spring Camp 2013 and I am pleased to confirm that the Masters Camp will be on the above dates. The location is as again at Langley Pond, Aiken, SC and accommodation will be at Rose Hill. The number of participants will be limited to 15.

Final prices will be confirmed but will be similar to last year ranging from $1,000 to $1,300 depending on rooms/bathroom configurations. Accommodation is also available in Aiken but will need to be booked separately – please refer to Guenter. The price includes breakfast and lunch but not dinner.

Please contact Guenter directly if you plan on attending on and/or 203-559-6450 . He will need to confirm the rooms and as such all bookings require a non-refundable check of $400 payable immediately. Your checks should be made out to Guenter Beutter and sent to him at PO Box 117, Wilton, CT 06897.

The format of the camp will be similar with 2-3 practices a day including use of the Augusta RC for strength training sessions. The objectives of the camp are to speed the transition from winter training to the spring season and preparation for racing. Langley Pond is a 2000 meter, laned course and practices will include video sessions, technical assessment as well as race pieces over varying distances.

Rose Hill is a very pleasant spacious location within walking distance of the town which is better known as an equestrian center.

1 Week Summer Camps for Teens

Structure: Our 1 week camp is a more intensive program that will give our new rower a jump start and allow them to progress at an accelerated rate allowing them to move into our novice group in the fall. We will have 2 water sessions a day (weather permitting) along with cross training and video assessments.


  • Monday, July 7th – Friday July 11th or
  • Monday, July 14th - Friday July 18th or
  • Monday, July 28th - Friday August 1st or
  • Monday August 11th – Friday August 15th

Time: 10am - 2:30pm

Cost: $400.00 per week (snacks & beverages provided)

What to bring: bagged lunch with an ice pack, sneakers, socks, hat and or sunglasses, sunscreen, change of clothes and rain jacket.

U23 Lightweight Women's Sculling Camps


The LTW. Women’s U23 National Team Camp will select the LW 4x, LW2x and LW1x to compete at the U23 World Championship Trials in Mercer, NJ to qualify for the U23 World Championships in Varese, Italy July 23-27. GMS has sent the LW4x to the U23 World Championships 4 times in the last 5 years. This year the camp is structured with the goal to qualify the LW 2x, LW1x and LW4x.

GMS Rowing center has an experienced world-class coaching staff in place in order to develop U23 athletes to the elite and senior level. It also boasts 36Km of unshared pristine water, great equipment and a dynamic training environment where world championship caliber athletes from all age categories train year round.

Application Information

The application deadline for the U23 Camp is Sunday, April 13th, 2014. All athletes applying for the U23 camp must be born on or after January 1, 1992. (Note: The last year that an athlete can compete in Under 23 events is the year that person turns 22). Please note, you must have a USRowing membership that is good through July 2014 and a valid U.S. passport.

The erg score range should be below 7:30 (2k) and 24:00 (6k).

Camp acceptances will be announced on or before Sunday, May 4, 2013.

Camp Details

The camp will start June 2nd at GMS Rowing Center, New Milford, CT. If you have a school conflict we should be able to accommodate you. Please include the details in your application. The camp will move to Princeton, N.J., in late June to continue selection, race at U23 Trials and possibly at the USRowing National Championships. Athletes that do not make the U23 Team can join the GMS College Camp and continue training in New Milford through Club Nationals in mid July and Canadian Henley in the beginning of August.

U23 Trials for the LW 4x, LW 2x, and LW 1x qualification will be at the end of June at Mercer Lake, N.J. The U23 World Championships are July 23-27 in Varese, Italy.

Up to 16 Athletes will be selected for this camp. The coaching staff will consist of Guenter Beutter and Victoria Burke.

The estimated camp cost is $1,500 for the selection phase, due May 12. We are currently working with sponsors to lower this cost. Final payment information will be sent out with acceptances. The cost for the trip to World Championships is still being determined but could be as high as $3,000 plus airfare. Usually it is closer to $1,000. The cost of the selection phase of camp includes: all coaching, equipment, facility fees, and housing. Food and transportation are not included and will be coordinated amongst invited athletes prior to the camp. The cost for the trip to World Championships includes everything except airfare. NOTE: We do not want financial issues to keep qualified athletes from applying. If you have financial concerns or constraints about the camp, please include an explanation in your application. Also, NCAA rules allow school programs to cover athlete expenses through the selection phase of camp. It is worth checking with your coach to see if this could be an option for you. This invitation-only camp for the selection of the W4x provides a development opportunity for high school girls who have birthdays in 1994 or later and have demonstrated the ability to compete at a high level.
